Eugen oder die Regienotiz

This project was kicked off by my visit of the Andreas Züst library in Oberegg near St. Gallen (Switzerland). I found the book “Züst oder die Aufschneider” from famous swiss author Urs Widmer and re-interpreted it over the stage directions (Regieanweisungen, Regienotizen) in that play.

Heideggers main work is “Being and Time” (“Sein und Zeit”). Those are also the most important words. So I recreated the whole book again but my only showing those two words. In the process I found out how many times he used those words and that gave the project its name. This is also an interim project for a bigger project that is just coming up – but more about that later.

“Das Mediale Denken” is a series of lectures at the HfG Karlsruhe. I designed the poster for the announcement. In addition to that I designed some simple smaller posters for the individual lectures which got a different treatment (“Instant posters”).

ÉCAL Fanzine (Zine Supplement)

The Zine Supplement is a small collection of tiny fan(maga)zines about a number of art and design schools we were interested in. It is a satellite project from the Art School Observation Club seminar (with Urs Lehni). In my publication is an interview with graphic and interaction designer Stewart Smith which I took in the summer. It’s also online if you want to read it right now.

Art School Observation Club

The Art School Observation Club is a gathering of students who observe todays art and design schools and universities internationally by investigating their directions, types and philosophies. We collected publications from these schools all over Europe and the whole world and designed a questionnaire that is going to be sent to the schools and the students and will be published as a survey afterwards (still in progress). Together with Matthias Gieselmann I also created the website.

Remember Me, Your Favorite Book

This poster was created during a workshop by swiss graphic designer Ludovic Balland, called “Remember Me Your Favorite Book”. It should be based on typography and methods were hand, cutter and tape.

The workshop dealt with the memory of and about a book and its visualization. To translate the memory of a chosen book with typographic material and promote it.

“Faust” is a tribute to the famous German book from Johann Wolfgang Goethe and promotes and tells the story how this book and books like it shaped the days of school. Also it references the content of the book, the knowledge Faust is fighting with and the library where he worked. It features the scribblings on those books and merges modern typography with old-style typography from the time when the Faust play had its premiere.

On July 6th 2011, German politician Sahra Wagenknecht (The Left) was at the HfG Karlsruhe for her lecture and a panel discussion with Marc Jongen (moderation), Prof. Uwe Hochmuth, Prof. Wolfgang Ullrich and initiator Prof. Byung-Chul Han: “Are we living in an achieving society?” (German: “Leben wir in einer Leistungsgesellschaft?”). I designed the poster for the lecture.

Oh!-Camp 2011 Design

The Oh!-Camp is an arts and design camp for pupils at the age of 16-19 at the HfG Karlsruhe. It was held for four days in 2010 and 2011. I designed the 2011 identity for the Oh!-Camp with the help of illustrator Yannick Nuss and I built the website.

Trophy Room is an American and international video and blogging platform for hunting and fishing sports. Together with Special Machine I developed the website and designed the interface.

Grenzenlos

The work called “Grenzenlos” (“Borderless”) shows perspectives you probably wouldn’t capture yourself or which are really unorthodox to take photos from. Just the sky, a straight shot into the air and a tiny reference to reality and civilization. The photos display a romance in the image of pure infinity.

This work was created during a seminar called “Sprachbehausung” (German for: “Speech’s home”) with text artist Bruno Nagel and by using a painting from Martin Kippenberger. Wearing the sign creates a whole new aura around you. You are someone else. (You should try it on your own. Make a sign, write a statement on it and sit down somewhere in public.)

Erstsemesterbuch 2009-2010

The “Erstsemesterbuch” (“First semester book”) is the book that collects and presents all the work that’s been created during the first semester Graphic Design at the HfG Karlsruhe. Every student has do design their own individually looking book. Mine has a small prolog from newspaper chief editor Frank Schirrmacher (FAZ) in it as well as the works and pieces of the first months of my study.
